DRUPS conversions

  • Create a new standby generator system using your existing DRUPS infrastructure

By converting your Diesel/Dynamic Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (DRUPS) device into a fully functioning standby generator, you can save time, cut costs, minimise disruption and reduce your environmental impact.

DRUPS devices were conceived to combine the benefits of a static UPS with a diesel generator.

A DRUPS system can operate in a smaller footprint, and without the need for constant air-conditioning associated with a static UPS. However, they require a more frequent and expensive maintenance regime.

When a building’s use or infrastructure is altered significantly, its standby power demands often change at the same time. By converting existing DRUPS machines into generators, rather than replacing the whole system, you can manage that change with less disruption, cost, time and environmental impact.

Financially, the most expensive component of a generator set is the engine. Retaining the engine offers a considerable saving compared to buying new, complete generators. And the fact that the majority of the DRUPS componentry remains on site means less scrapping of equipment, and less manufacturing of new, replacement equipment. Where a sound plant replacement strategy exists, there are also considerable savings to be made from not requiring crane lifts and specialist plant-moving contractors.

Crucially the timeline is also much shorter. A new alternator will typically be available in under half the lead-time associated with a new generating set. Much of the enabling works can be completed during the alternator build time, meaning a conversion can be completed well within the typical build period of a new genset.

Our solutions include the design, installation and maintenance of:

    • Single DRUPS conversions
    • Multi-node DRUPS conversions
    • Design of switchgear and associated controls to suit new generator application
    • Mechanical design
    • Vibration testing of completed generator system to ISO8258 Part 9
    • Full Turnkey package solutions
