Our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Haydock gives us capacity to assemble up to 25 PowerPods on our shop floor at any one time. The first of its kind in Europe, our facility enables an increased speed-to-deployment, and improved quality.

PowerPods have changed AVK’s energy landscape. The final piece to our end-to-end energy solutions, they provide data centre operators with the ability to source all data centre infrastructure equipment through one provider, with the guarantee that their solution is entirely bespoke to requirements.

PowerPods are pre-engineered, fully-integrated, transportable units housing the critical power infrastructure that safely and effectively delivers electricity into a data centre. AVK are now proud to provide this technology, from design to delivery.

In assembling these PowerPods, they need to have somewhere to scale and grow. This is where we introduce our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility dedicated entirely to modular power systems and PowerPod assembly.

The first of its kind in Europe, our facility allows for superior testing, improved quality, and the ability to alleviate the amount of on-site construction. AVK Haydock – our new facility, operational and primed to deliver.

The spec

With a PowerPod project already underway, our Haydock facility is due to receive first deliveries of equipment imminently. Impressive in its scale, the facility is comprised of 140,000 sq ft of wide open space, giving capacity for around 23-25 PowerPods (most measuring 18 metres long x 4.2 metres wide) at any one time along with ample lay down areas for relevant components.

A 64-tonne overhead crane enables safe lifting, positioning, loading and unloading of the PowerPods. Large components such as UPS and transformers can’t be manually handled and instead require the precision and reliability of the significant capacity that the 64-tonne crane provides. 383 linear metres of busbar allows for high-power testing capability and flexible power routing, giving the facility an incredibly strong backbone in power distribution.

Alongside the 140,000 sq ft capacity, we have 100,000 sq ft of outside yard and storage space for large scale deliveries and finished goods. This allows easeful equipment deliveries and a smooth assembly process, ultimately speeding delivery time.

The scale of our Haydock facility allows us to fulfil large PowerPod orders with a faster turnaround than data centre operators are used to. We can offer the speed-to-deployment that operators are sorely requiring, with the capacity to assemble up to 100 PowerPods per year. This will facilitate growth needed for data centre operators to keep up with increasing AI demand.

A sustainable focus

Haydock has been designed and built to BREEAM standards (the world’s leading sustainability assessment framework for buildings), and is currently undergoing its post-construction review, with certification expected imminently.

BREEAM assesses buildings across a wide range of criteria including energy efficiency, water use, responsible material sourcing, waste reduction, pollution, biodiversity, and occupant wellbeing. Supporting these principles, the facility features extensive glazing to maximise natural light in line with Health & Wellbeing credits, EV charging infrastructure and cyclist facilities to encourage sustainable travel, and a dedicated wildflower and no-mow area to promote biodiversity. In addition, a 285-panel rooftop solar PV system generates renewable electricity on-site.

Watch this space for our confirmed BREEAM rating.

The impact

The impact of our Haydock facility is significant. As the Europe first purpose-built modular power facility, we are uniquely positioned to assemble and deliver PowerPods to data centres across the UK and Europe.

The facility is suitably placed to offer fast access routes for delivery to data centres across the UK and Europe. With the facility placed moments away from a motorway, the technology will be to dimensions that allow transport without the need for a police escort, allowing for smoother, faster journeys to site. This yet again paves the way towards ensuring speed-to-deployment for the data centre operator.

The testing process at the facility is superior to testing carried out on a data centre site, leading to improved operations and time saving. The process of testing the integration of PowerPods with generators often takes the most time during data centre construction, so pre-testing is useful.

Powered by people

In establishing our PowerPods division and our facility in Haydock, we have compiled a team who has 250 years of combined experience in modular power systems and the technology included, valuable connections with relevant suppliers, and a familiarity with the requirements of running a large-scale facility.

We have recognised that in order to create a PowerPod offering of the highest quality, we would have to source absolute experts. This has resulted in a large expansion of AVK’s staff, rather than a redistribution of existing employees. The team has got straight to work, fitting out the facility in record time and quickly solidifying working relationships in order to provide incredible standard of service to customers.

It is our people that make our PowerPods offering what it is; the expertise and engineering excellence of our team cannot be underplayed.

AVK PowerPods offer utmost flexibility, improved quality, quicker speed-to-deployment, and a knowledgeable and trustworthy team. The power chain only benefits you – enquire about your project today.
