CCHP: The Technology Allowing for Enhanced Energy Efficiency

CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbines) have widely been accepted as the BAT (Best Available Technique) for large-scale embedded generation. With the recently released emissions drivers from the Environment Agency, there is increasing need for new, emerging technologies for a higher efficiency rating. That solution could be Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP).

Decarbonising Behind-the-Meter Power: How it Works

In the face of AI-driven growth and grid capacity restrictions, one of the greatest challenges the data centre industry faces is how to decarbonise dispatchable on-site power. At AVK, we're making moves to tackle this challenge.

A Few Home Truths About Hydrogen

Hydrogen has considerable potential for the data centre industry. It is very energy-dense, and burning a kilogram of it provides 2.6 times more energy than burning a kilogram of natural gas. When burned in air it produces none of the sulphates or carbon monoxide through which fossil fuels damage air quality both outdoors and in (although it does produce some oxides of nitrogen). Even more attractive for data centre backup, when used in a fuel cell, which uses the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity without combustion, it produces nothing but water.

Scaling Up: Modular Power Solutions for a Hyperscaler in the Netherlands

Data centre projects require meticulous planning and attention to detail. Hyperscale data centre projects require this to extremes. These attentive qualities were demonstrated by our AVK projects and business services divisions. AVK were contracted to work on a hyperscale data centre project in the Netherlands, that faced unique logistical and technical challenges. AVK were called upon to design and deliver modular generator solutions that could overcome transport restrictions, meet tight delivery schedules, and ensure seamless commissioning. With contributions from all divisions in business services, the result was a containerised system built on collaboration, expertise, and transparency. This truly sets a benchmark for future European projects.
