Europe’s First Microgrid: Pure DC in Dublin, Ireland

Europe's first microgrid in the data centre space has launched at Pure DC's site in Dublin. Operating off-grid and capable of remaining so, the facility on its completion will have an installed capacity of 110MW - 30MW generated from each permanent energy centre, and 20MW from a battery energy storage system (BESS).

On-Site Microgrid Power: Primary Consideration for DC Developers

2026 is the year of dispatchable, grid free, on-site power for data centres, for inference AI and for energy security. On-site microgrid power is becoming the primary consideration for base load and grid interaction, for European data centre developers.

A Few Home Truths About Hydrogen

Hydrogen has considerable potential for the data centre industry. It is very energy-dense, and burning a kilogram of it provides 2.6 times more energy than burning a kilogram of natural gas. When burned in air it produces none of the sulphates or carbon monoxide through which fossil fuels damage air quality both outdoors and in (although it does produce some oxides of nitrogen). Even more attractive for data centre backup, when used in a fuel cell, which uses the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity without combustion, it produces nothing but water.

Redefining the Journey: Tech-Agnostic Microgrids for Data Centres

At AVK, we believe resilience comes from choice. No single technology can power tomorrow’s data alone. That’s why we design solutions across the full power chain, from turbines and engines to batteries, renewables and future fuels.
